Carpet from/for a city, 2017

discarded damaged fender liners from the streets of LA, cut apart, sprayed and woven into a carpet

about 230 x 210 cm

Intrigued by the city’s landscape, the intertwining of nature and urban architecture, I spent much of my Los Angeles year cruising this city in my car. Every so often, I would see ripped off car parts lying on the roadside, remains of accidents and incidents. Especially torn-apart fender liners caught my eye. I started to collect these dislocated and damaged parts from the streets, cut them into strips, spray-painted these and wove them into a carpet.
